Ragged Flag Rich was created by Texas songwriter Ron Lyons as a place for songs that never fit comfortably inside the lines Nashville wanted him to stay within.
Ron has been writing songs since the late 1990s and playing music since childhood. Over the years, the songs kept coming — songs about faith, freedom, marriage, heartbreak, small towns, hard living, loyalty, old trucks, open roads, and the things people carry long after the moment has passed.
Those songs eventually became Ragged Flag Rich.
Released through RFR Music, the sound is called Modern Outlaw Country — gritty storytelling, dark Americana atmosphere, Southern rock muscle, steel, fiddle, loud guitars, and big choruses built around lyrics that still have something to say.
Ragged Flag Rich is not a conventional Nashville act and was never meant to be one.
It is Ron Lyons’ songwriting project, built around real experiences, real beliefs, and more than three decades of writing music outside the mainstream.
Every Ragged Flag Rich song begins with Ron — the lyrics, the melody, the story, and the idea behind it.
The world surrounding the music includes recurring characters, imagery, and cinematic storytelling. Colt and Rae Rich are part of that world. They represent different sides of the songs — the rough edges, the heartbreak, the fire, the loyalty, and the complicated people who live inside these stories.
But the music itself starts with Ron.
From songs like “Baby American” and “American Dirt” to “Dallas in the Morning,” “If Jesus Was a Cowboy,” and “Radio Take Over,” Ragged Flag Rich lives where outlaw country, Texas storytelling, faith, freedom, and hard-earned experience meet.
The project was built for people who still want country music to feel honest.
No trend chasing.
No watered-down message.
No pretending to be something it isn’t.
Just songs written by a Texas songwriter who never stopped writing them.
